Bob Taylor

At Century Casino & Hotel in Central City, Bob Taylor is greeted with smiles and calls from guests claiming he’s “a good luck charm.” As a craps and blackjack dealer, Taylor has built up a loyal customer base and people go to him when they want to gamble and have fun. He has a good rapport with people and understands that they go where they are comfortable.

Taylor makes the commute up the hill every day from Denver to work at Century and another casino. He unequivocally states, “I love my job,” and works long hours at something he really enjoys. Taylor likes working with people and having fun with everyone at the table.

The only drawback to his job and one of the reasons he works every day is that dealers generally earn slightly more than the minimum wage per hour and rely upon tips or the generosity of their guests in earning a livelihood.

Taylor has spent more than 30 years in gaming and associated businesses; he still owns the largest rental company for casino games in Denver. He also operated one of the first dealer training schools in Denver and continues to do some training. A 30-day dealer course costs about an average of $1,200. His advice to up-and-coming dealers is to learn a lot of the games, including blackjack, craps and roulette, and be versatile.

Century Casino is open 24 hours daily, offers dining from the Retro Deli and Mid City Grill, and has 22 hotel rooms and four guest suites available for overnight stays. Call Century at 303-582-5050 or visit www.cnty.com for more information on special promotions during the month of October. Stop by and check out your lucky winning streak with Taylor; he’s looking forward to seeing you at one of his tables.
