The “Voice of Johnny Z’s” belongs to Justin: He’s the one who makes the announcements at Johnny Z’s Casino located at 132 Lawrence St. in historic Central City. He’s been with the casino since it opened in June last year and he’s genuinely glad to be there.
Justin believes part of Johnny Z’s great appeal to its many guests is that it “has the style of a bigger casino with the feel of a smaller casino.” Another part of that appeal is the casino’s personal touch.
At Johnny Z’s he says, “you’re not a number. Everyone is known by name.” When asked what he liked best about working there, Justin said it was “the family atmosphere and good relationships with great people.”
Justin is a seasoned casino employee having cross-trained on a number of jobs from working as a valet and slot attendant to handling transactions in the cashier’s cage. He says the cross-training allows him to have a better “understanding of others’ jobs” and be “not so judgmental” should something go wrong at work during the day.
Have a question about the great outdoors? Ask Justin. He moved to Colorado about 12 years ago from Pennsylvania and said, “I love the outdoors and enjoy the mountains.”
Justin lives in Gilpin County and spends his recreational time camping, four-wheeling, hiking, riding ATVs, and exploring the James Peak Wilderness area in Gilpin and Clear Creek counties east of the Continental Divide.
One of Justin’s favorite weekly newspapers is the Colorado Gambler. He enjoys checking out the pages for his horoscope, seeing what bands are playing in the area and reading about the history of the city buildings. Justin knows his clientele and if any of Johnny Z’s guests appear in the Gambler’s Winners Circle section, he wants to makes sure he congratulates them on their good fortune the next time he sees them.
