City Hall occupies two buildings. The vintage residence on the left is the Joseph Retallack house, built in 1897. In 1987, Glen Alegre purchased the home and spent $100,000 restoring it to its original elegance; five years later he sold it to Canadian investors who gutted it and attached the new building on the right, creating the Nevada House Casino. The city bought the shuttered casino in 1995 for their city hall and commissioned Wendell Pugh to create the adjoining mural depicting the history of Central City.
