On Sept. 5, Cripple Creek’s Old Homestead House Museum‘s new “adopt a brick program” started with a bang with a premier donation of $1,000. The contribution came courtesy of the recent Salute To American Veterans Rally.

Lodi Hern accepted the check from Rally Committee Members Jim and Pam Wear in the Parlor of the Old Homestead House. Hern has been a volunteer guide at the Museum for more than 40 years.

“We certainly appreciate such a generous donation,” said Hern. “This is a great start to our fundraiser.”

The funds were generated during the recent Rally from the 23rd annual POW/MIA Recognition Ride.

Stu Sacks, Rally committee chairman, said, “The Rally Committee wanted to take the lead on this new fundraising campaign. Part of what we as veterans have fought for is the preservation of our American heritage, history and way of life. After all the outstanding support shown for the Rally by the city of Cripple Creek, it’s residents and business owners and the City Council, we could see no more fitting way to say thank you.”

In a separate contribution, an additional $3,000 from the Ride has been dedicated to a custom designed Flag Pole and Stone Base Memorial honoring the five branches of the United States Armed Forces. The Memorial has already been presented to the Cripple Creek City Council.

The 18th annual Salute to American Veterans Rally was held in Cripple Creek Aug. 19 – 22. The annual event honors American Veterans, POW’s, MIA’s and active duty military and celebrates our freedom as Americans. Visit www.theveteransrally.org.
