Ken of Gilpin County is a Colorado Gambler reader and has been for years. When he picks up a copy of the weekly issue to read, he turns to his favorite section of the paper that details the promotions being offered by the Black Hawk and Central City casinos for that particular month. He takes the paper with him to check out the promos.
One of the promotions he recently enjoyed while gaming was treating his visiting friends and family to the September promotion of the all-you-can-eat crab legs buffet offered by Riviera Black Hawk Casino. He would love to see that type of promotion repeated, as it was a special treat for them.
Over the years Ken has won several big jackpots playing the machines: $50,000 and $25,000 at the old Colorado Central Station in Black Hawk, and another $25,000 at The Gilpin Casino in Black Hawk. He’s also had his share of losses at slots, but he enjoys the fun of gaming with its fine dining, socializing with other players and staff, and truly appreciates the congenial ambiance cultivated by the casinos for their guests.
Colorado Central Station was Ken’s favorite casino for a long time and he fondly recalls the seasonal promotions offered there. He personally likes football and while we were talking, he turned around and pointed out the football jerseys Canyon Casino was offering to its guests as an October promotion. Ken still considers Central Station’s giveaway of a Denver Broncos Super Bowl football from a game they won the best promotion – ever.
Part of Ken’s wardrobe also includes the leather jacket he earned at Colorado Central Station and he would like to see the local casinos offer such valuable and tangible promotions again. He travels and part of his fun time is spent visiting sister casinos of local casinos in other states.
When asked where he spends most of his time gaming, he replied that he favors Ameristar (Ameristar Casino Resort Spa Black Hawk), Canyon Casino and the Mardi Gras Casino in Black Hawk. In Central City he considers Johnny Z’s Casino a good place to go. He understands that the casinos foster loyalty in their guests and as a long time casino patron, he too is loyal to his favorite casino staff. When some of Ken’s favorite staff transferred from one casino to another, he went with them.
Ken plays all machines, preferring slots to poker and table games, and he described one of the strategies he’s developed in playing slots. He’ll start off with a $100 in a dollar machine and if he wins nothing, he’ll put another $100 in. If he wins nothing the second time around, he’ll move on to another machine. Ken’s worked it out that his success rate is about 80 percent – and he happily returns to the casinos to play for more.
Overall, Ken is a happy guest of the Black Hawk and Central City casinos and will continue to spend his free time having fun gaming—with Colorado Gambler at his side – in our local casinos in the mountains. Thank you, Ken, for your loyal patronage and cheers to you.
