The Lodge Casino is always a fun place to be. The music is upbeat, the atmosphere is lively and all the people there, whether working or playing, are having a good time. New games are everywhere, but I wandered past them to the table game area. Although it was an early weekday afternoon, there were plenty of players and activity. Upstairs in the 14-table poker room, it’s different – here all the players are quietly absorbed in their calculations.
Make sure to not miss a chance to eat at The Lodge because the food is great, no matter what you’re in the mood for. Their Seasons Buffet was again voted Best Buffet in Black Hawk, and The White Buffalo always hits the right note for good food at reasonable prices. Jake’s Deli and the Noodle Bar are popular quick service choices while Java n Crème satisfies the craving for caffeine – maybe with a sweet – from 6 a.m. – 3 a.m.
For a good old-fashioned coffee-shop experience, try Lucille Malone’s Restaurant at The Gilpin. The specials here rotate periodically but remain popular whatever they are, and there are the traditional menu choices as well, plus a salad bar. The Gilpin mixes local history into the fun, and the story of Lucille and her appearances over the years are always heart wrenching.
Now the two popular casinos are giving you the chance to live the “Life of Luxury.” You could win $25,000 cash, a Cadillac, a Camaro, Panama Canal Cruise, a tour of France and Spain and other great prizes in the monthly Grand Prize drawings at each property.
